He chuckles while reaching into a box that he has hooked under his arm and holds up a book. “Found this at Mom’s.” My eyes narrow in on the book that I’ve seen before. I walk down the steps to examine the book closer. It’s black made of pleather-like material with white lettering that’s been so rubbed off you can’t make out what it says anymore, the corners are worn and the cover is cracked along the spine. Whispering, I just stare, “Mom’s diary.” “Yup.” Hunter looks away before meeting my eyes again. “There is a whole box of them. Think we should read them?” I take the book out of my brother’s hands, flip the cover open, and rub my pointer finger over my mom’s name. Emotions wanting to break free yet my curiosity overwhelms me. Walking into the living room, I set the worn diary down on the coffee table that’s littered with everything and anything that a coffee table can hold. I take a seat on the sofa, staring at it while imagining my mom calling my name. Chills break out across my skin. “I don’t know.” I answer honestly. “Do you think we should?” “I don’t know. That’s why I came here.” Hunter places the box of books he was holding on the table next to the diary then sits down next to me. “Elle said that we should if and when we’re ready. She knew that Mom was writing in it, she had to help her toward the end when it became difficult for her to write it herself.” He shrugs. “Mom’s life story is on those pages, in every one of those books just waiting to be told.” I nod, keeping my eyes trained on the diary. My heart is hammering against my chest and I’m sure if Hunter listens close enough he’d hear it. I miss Mom terribly. I have thought about her every minute of every day over these last few months. Almost every day since Brooklyn was born I’ve told her a story about her grandmother. Eventually, I’ll run out of things to tell her but now that we have her diaries I’ll have a lot more things to tell her to keep her memory alive. My eyes slide over to my brother whose legs are bouncing up and down. He’s probably feeling the same way as me in this moment. “Hunter,” I say his name to get his attention. I wait until he’s looking me in the eyes. “Maybe, if you want, we can read the first entry.” Hunter clasps his hands out in front of him, leaning on his knees and nods. “Okay, as long as you want to then I’m ready.” I take a deep breath and reach for the worn black diary. I set it in my lap with shaking hands. “I’m scared.” I whisper. I don’t want to be sad any more than I am already but I miss her and I think by reading this…it might help dull the sadness or it’ll hurt more than it already does. A gamble I’m willing to risk.

Synopsis
Love the music—never the man. At twenty years-old, Sabrina Caroline was America’s sweetheart pop star, until she took a year off to treat her social phobia that her cut-throat-manager/mom paid top dollar to keep quiet. Now as part of her comeback, she’s forced into collaboration with one of the hottest rock bands topping the charts—Birds of Prey—whose lead guitarist happens to be her biggest mistake…and her biggest regret. Hawke Owens never imagined Birds of Prey would surpass the basement of the Duncan High School for Performing Arts, let alone score them a European tour. But success has its price, and for him, it’s being forced to work with the only girl who shattered his heart—Sabrina Caroline. She’s everything that he remembers and more, every memory and fantasy come to life. At first touch, their connection is electric, but it’s also as strong as her determination to follow her number one rule—she doesn’t date rock stars…even though she’s become one. Loving her again is as natural as holding his guitar, but she’s destroyed him once, and this time the stakes are higher, more public, and the consequences life-altering. Against the backdrop of the birth of MTV, they’ll have to choose between the demands of their label, and the demands of the heart.

He took my face in his hands and leaned in until he was all I could see, all I could feel, and smell. How easily he consumed me with a simple touch. “There have been too many women. Too many meaningless encounters. Too many faces. But there’s only been one name in my mouth, and it’s always been yours. Only yours.”   His mouth met mine without preamble, and before I could protest, I was lost to the feel of his lips on mine.   It was so familiar, yet new. When his tongue stroked the seam of my lips, I opened for him, and reveled in his groan as he sank into the kiss. I found the support beam against my back as he pressed against me, our bodies aligning with the fit I’d always remembered as perfect.   It was still just as exquisite.   His hand stroked down the side of my body, a path of fire igniting in his wake until he gripped one of my hips, pulling me even closer to him. With the other, he tilted my head for a deeper assault, exploring the recesses of my mouth, lingering like he didn’t already know every part of me.   It was the best second first kiss in the history of kisses.
I arched, pushing my breasts against his chest, and looped my arms around his neck. Then I kissed him back with every ounce of passion I’d missed these last three years. I kissed him the way I’d fantasized about since I walked out, with tiny nips and fuller, lingering caresses. When that wasn’t enough, I sucked his tongue back into my mouth and reveled in his groan of surrender.
He still wanted me, and that knowledge was more intoxicating than any alcohol, more high-inducing than any drug.
His hand shifted, running under my dress until he met bare skin where my garters attached to my stockings. “Holy shit, Brie. You’re going to be the death of me.”
He squeezed my bare thigh, and I lifted my leg, semi-wrapping it around his hip.
I’d almost forgotten how powerful it was to kiss Hawke, how it consumed every sense, every thought, until I was just a jumble of feelings and need. It was never just a kiss, it was a full-body experience that blocked out the rest of the world.
A moan escaped my lips as his set to my neck, and my head rolled back against the beam. He hit the spot right above my collarbone and I whimpered.
“I love that sound,” he murmured, then gently sucked that patch of skin so he could hear it again.
“Hey guys—whoa!” Chad’s voice penetrated my haze of desire.
“Go the fuck away,” Hawke said, moving so I was covered from Chad’s gaze. “Yeah, well, I would—I mean, good for you guys, and it’s about damn time—but
Oscar Oswald is here and he’s asking for us.”
I pushed gently against Hawke’s chest. If Oscar Oswald was here, it could mean huge things for their career. He was the biggest name going in rock. “You need to see what he wants.”

I absolutely love a second chance romances and this one was no exception! Hawke and Brie's story took me through a whirlwind of emotions. I laughed, cried, got frustrated at the stubbornness these characters displayed, and swooned. Rebecca writes about such real issues and develops her characters so they just jump to life in front of your eyes.

Excerpt
I couldn’t quite make eye contact with Ethan since the last time I came back to the apartment with Owen before Thanksgiving break. We caught Ethan naked in the hallway—on a date and thinking they had the place to themselves for a night. I was no prude, but seeing junk not belonging to my boyfriend turned me three shades of red. I hadn't even seen Owen's, but I . . . felt it . . . a lot. On my leg, against my stomach, sometimes rubbing my back if he was holding me from behind. Why I was so bashful I couldn't say, especially since I didn’t have a cherry to pop. But it was only one guy and only one time, shortly before he shredded my heart and then stomped all over it. Even though I couldn't make my virginity grow back, I wasn’t quite ready to go there again. However, not being ready for sex had absolutely nothing to do with wanting it. Our time together always ended with a scorching kiss and groping against the nearest wall. Owen’s Southern gentility was probably wearing thin these past few weeks. “Owen? The movie starts in a half hour!” I called as I strolled down the hallway. “Hey, City. Give me a minute, practice ran late.” Owen had just stepped out of the shower and was dripping freaking wet. The V on his hips disappeared into a towel cinched around his tapered waist. Water traveled from the stray tangled locks at his neck and trickled down over his ripped chest and his abs before disappearing into the bunched up material at his waist. I licked my parched lips and tried to remember how to speak. How many damn abs did he have? Six? Eight? I was gaping at a wet, half naked Owen while the corner of the bastard's mouth turned up in a smirk. I didn't have the faculties to scowl back. My tongue didn't want to work unless it was tracing the water trails across Owen's body. “Keep looking at me like that, baby. We won't be going anywhere tonight.”

★★★★☆

Finding Me was my first book by this author and I really liked it. My heart ached for Bella as she struggled with her father leaving her as a small child. No one should ever have to go through that. I'm so proud of the strong young woman that she became. Major kudos to Lucas for raising and loving Bella as his own <3. Owen was such a swoon-worthy guy and the perfect one for Bella. I loved how he always made sure to let Bella know how much he cared about her and let her know he'd never leave her. I'm looking forward to going back and reading the other books in this series.

Damaged Pieces
Cape Isle series, book 2

Synopsis:
“When something is damaged or broken, the pieces can be put back together, but they will never be the same.”

KATIE: When I was left to raise my daughter alone, I decided dating just wasn't worth it. I never wanted my daughter to experience the kind of heartbreak only a man can give you and I didn't have the time, until Nicholas Sinclaire came walking into my life with his charming smile and his mischievous eyes. I just wish I would have known how it was going to end.

NICK: I knew she was it for me the moment I met her, but I had to leave. I had one more tour to do overseas and then I could come home to her for good. Little did we know, I wouldn't come back the same man. I was damaged beyond repair, so I pushed them away and hurt them. It didn't take me long to realize the mistake I had made. Now, I will stop at nothing to get them back in my life, but will Katie want my Damaged Pieces?

My Review:

★★★★☆

I finished this book in less than 24 hours. It sucked me in from the very first page and took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I laughed, I cried several times, I was frustrated, and I swooned.  I loved seeing Nick and Katie's feelings for each other develop during the time they spent together before he had to leave to go overseas.  It was heartbreaking to see Nick struggle so badly with what happened to him when he was in Iraq and pushing everyone away.  He was really frustrating at times but I understand why he reacted the way he did.  I loved that the couple from the first book was included in this one and I was able to catch up with what was going on with them.  I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next one in the series!

Synopsis
Easton Wells has spent years burying his guilt by digging up some of the world’s most renowned treasures while surviving the dangerous terrains in which they’re located—all captured for television. When his producers threaten to axe the show, he has no choice but to turn to the last person he still trusts—the girl he left behind. Rain Walker has made a name for herself documenting wild and endangered animals, and the last voice she expects to hear while shooting in South Africa is Easton’s. He’s more gorgeous than she remembers, but the pain in her heart is as fresh as ever. They’d once planned on spending the rest of their lives together, but after her father’s tragic death while on expedition in Israel with him, Easton bailed on their future together without an explanation. It’s been nine years, and yet the intense love they shared seems only a moment ago. When he asks her to film his latest treasure hunt, Rain wants to turn him down instantly. But when he explains it’s to the same cave that swallowed her father, she can’t say no. She wants to experience the last place her father was alive, and she’s beyond curious about what happened to the boy she used to love. They’ve got two weeks to locate a treasure that’s been lost for centuries, or Easton will lose the one thing in his life he’s come to depend on. As their old passion is reignited—and dark secrets uncovered—they face the extreme terrain of the mountain range that threatens them at every turn. As more than the wildlife and sharp drop-offs tries to kill them, Rain starts to question if the legendary treasure they seek—the same one her father had died trying to unearth—is truly meant to be found, or if some things, including their feelings for each other, are better left buried.

Henry
“How about you and one of your girls come out to my show in L.A. next week? My treat. Dinner, drinks, the whole deal. Evan and I would love to take you two beautiful ladies out for an evening.”
“Excuse me?” he exclaimed, cocking his head to catch my gaze.
I leaned back into my seat and lifted a hand to massage his shoulder. I was barely able to suppress a moan when the angle of his firm trap muscle met my palm.
Fuck, this guy was built like a brick wall. And I was going to love every second of watching him crumble for me.
“Oh, come on, Evan. It’s the least we can do. Double date.” I winked at Jessica. “You can fly them out! My plane should be ready by then.”
Jessica’s eyes jumped to Evan’s. “You’re a pilot?” Her smile spread irritatingly wide.
Back off, Ginger Spice.
Snapping my fingers in her direction, I corrected, “He’s my pilot.”
Subtlety was not a virtue I possessed. Was subtlety a virtue at all?
“Your temporary pilot,” he amended before shaking his head and then tipping his beer to his lips for a long pull.
“Anyway. Do we have a date?” And, by date, I meant feeding her dinner while I attempted to work my way into Evan’s pants.
She pressed one finger to her lips and then nervously flashed her eyes around the cabin.
“Oops. Sorry.” I shrugged sheepishly. Lifting my drink to my mouth, I discreetly passed her my cocktail napkin and then not-so-discreetly brushed my forearm against Evan’s chest as I pulled away.
He offered her a tight smile just before she disappeared.
I grinned proudly.
“What the fucking hell was that?” he whisper-yelled at me.
“That was me getting a woman’s number.”
He arched an eyebrow. “A woman. Really?”
“What? Is that not allowed?” I feigned innocence.
He clenched his fist in his lap, and it made me suddenly aware that my own hands had stopped trembling—and in record time, I should note. Evan seemed to be quite useful in the art of distraction.
He leaned closer. “Don’t bullshit me. I looked you up. You’re…” He stopped, unwilling to say the big, bad “G” word.
“I’m what?” I taunted.
He rolled his eyes and chugged the rest of his beer.
We went back to silence until Jessica came back by with another drink, complete with her phone number written on the napkin.
“I’m not going on a double date,” Evan said as I tucked the napkin into my pocket. “You want me to fly them out? Not a problem. Schedule it with Jackson. But that’s the extent of my professional responsibilities. And, since I’m off the clock right now, I’d also like to mention that I think whatever play you’re planning to run on that woman is fucked up.”
My head snapped to his. “I’m sorry. Play?” I asked with more attitude than I had originally planned.
“Yes. Play,” he sneered.
I stirred my drink. “Let me get this straight. I’m offering to fly her out in a private jet, feed her dinner at one of the best restaurants in the city, and put her front row at a concert that has been sold out for over a year. That doesn’t seem like a play to me. It sounds like I’m trying to do something nice for a woman I was rude to earlier.” I casually leaned back in my seat. “My conscience doesn’t ‘play’ when it comes to apologies.”
“Right. Well, maybe you should have a chat with your conscience, because she looks like she just won the date of a lifetime. Meanwhile, you don’t even like women.” He stalled, no doubt looking for just the right word to express his disgust without sounding like a bigot. Judging by his gentleness when we’d taken off, he wasn’t the type of guy to go for the fag bomb.
I watched him intently, excited to see how he was going to handle this.
“You’re gay.”
I frowned at his lack of creativity. “Not that it’s any of your damn business. But I’ll have you know I love women.”
It wasn’t a lie. I adored women. Especially Levee and Robin.
I just didn’t like pussy. Meh. Semantics.
He gaped. “You’re bi?”
“And I’ll repeat: None of your damn business. But yeah. Do you have a problem with that?”
Again, it wasn’t necessarily a lie.
Was I bisexual? Fuck no. My cock was in no way an equal opportunity employer.
I was somewhat bilingual though. I knew how to ask for a blow job in English and Spanish. I pretended that was what he meant.
Chupame la verga.

This was my first book by this author and my first m/m book ever. I don't want to give any spoilers but there were certain parts of the book that I struggled with. This was a good book though and I liked seeing Henry and Evan build the foundation for their relationship together. I'm looking forward to reading other books by this author.
