*Review* Trucker by Jamie Schlosser

30822550

Synopsis:
ANGEL
I know what you're whispering in the car as you pass me by.
Hitchhiker.
When you see me walking along the side of the road with my thumb out, you'll probably keep driving without giving me a second glance. You probably think I'm foolish. Naïve.
You might assume I've made some bad decisions.
You might think I'm too young to be on my own.
You might be right.

TRAVIS
I love my job, but driving an eighteen-wheeler comes with a certain stereotype. When you hear I’m a trucker, a specific image might come to mind. Uneducated. Dirty. Perverted. Rough around the edges and a little bit dangerous.
But the truth is, I’m not any of those things. In fact, I’m pretty far from it.
You’d be surprised to find out I’m one of the good guys.

My Review:

Jamie Schlosser is a new author for me and I am SO glad I decided to read this book. I finished it in less than a day! That's how good it was. I'm not even sure I can express in words how much I loved this book. It's been a really long time since I was so engrossed in a book that I didn't even realize my kindle needed to be charged until the 'powering down' screen popped up. The characters were amazing (well, except a couple douchey ones, haha) and the story flowed perfectly. I loved Angel's character. I'd love to have a friend like her! She was sassy, quirky, funny, blunt, kind, awkward, and made no apologizes for who she was. Next up is Travis. That man is made up of all things SWOON! Oh, my heart. I just met my new #1 book boyfriend. Travis was charming, funny, sexy as hell, and just....swoon. I really enjoyed the chemistry and comfortable banter between Angel and Travis. They fell hard and fast but that worked for them. <3 I already have Dancer (The Good Guys #2) downloaded on my kindle and can't wait to dive into Colton's story.

*Best of the Bunch* January 2017

I started out the year in a bit of a book funk, but wow!  What a great month for reading January turned out to be.  I read 9 books this month.  Out of them all, my favorite by far was Trucker by Jamie Schlosser

Trucker is the story of Angel and Travis.  Angel is travelling (or hitchhiking to be more exact) across the country to get to her mother.  Travis is the truck driver who ultimately decides to pick her up so she doesn't wind up in a dangerous situation at the hands of someone with bad intentions.  Angel and Travis have amazing chemistry together.  I don't want to give away too much, but just know this is definitely a story you should pick up.

Excerpt

“Daddy!”

Four-year-old Gemma’s plaintive cry split the night. Ryder squinted at the glowing numbers on the digital clock next to his bed. Three a.m. Shit. Nothing good ever happened at this hour of the night, or morning, if he wanted to get technical. Maybe it was a bad dream, even though Gemma rarely woke up at night anymore.

He settled down beneath the warmth of the comforter, preparing to fall back asleep. Jason moved closer to him, and Ryder slid his foot down Jason’s calf, relishing the scrape of his hairy leg. As long as he was up, it shouldn’t be a total loss. Ryder kissed Jason’s naked shoulder and licked up his strong neck, the steady pulse of life quickening beneath his lips. Jason’s sighs spurred him on, and Ryder smiled to himself, unsure whether his husband was fully awake, but that didn’t stop him from palming Jason’s ass and giving it a hard squeeze.

“Daddy, please. Come.”

Damn. No use. Fully awake now, Ryder slid out of bed, immediately missing Jason’s solid heat. Longingly he gazed back down at him splayed out in the center of the bed and shook his head with dismay. The man worked too damn hard. Jason had collapsed after they put Gemma to sleep the night before, barely able to stifle his yawns long enough to eat dinner. Mallory Brothers Construction had taken off in the past few years, and though Jason and Liam had hired several other architects and construction engineers to help alleviate the load of work they took on, Jason still tried to be as hands-on as possible. He and Ryder had numerous discussions about his long hours and how they kept him from being home with Gemma, but Jason insisted his presence was necessary, and Ryder backed off, unwilling to argue about it.

The past few weeks, Ryder tried to push dinner later and later, but Gemma had fallen asleep at the dinner table too many times for that to remain feasible. He loved the quiet times at night when they’d sit together and he’d read her a bedtime story, but Ryder missed having Jason beside him, sharing those special moments. The last thing Ryder wanted was for Jason to work so hard he missed Gemma’s childhood; his own father had missed his and Landon’s childhoods by burying himself in his work. Ryder wouldn’t allow Jason to do that, but he had to find a way to tell Jason without him getting upset.

“What’s wrong?” Jason mumbled, his face buried in the pillow. “I had a dream someone was copping a feel.” He turned his cheek on the pillow and mustered a tired smile. “Thought I was gonna get lucky.”

“You were about to, but Gemma woke up before I could make your dreams come true. Go back to sleep, babe.” Ryder leaned down to kiss Jason’s stubble-rough cheek. “She probably had a bad dream.”

“Mmm. Well, hurry back. I was dreaming of the beach, and you were my hot cabana boy.” He wiggled his ass. “I’m ready for my massage.”

Ryder snorted and rolled his eyes. “You’re insane.” But he couldn’t help kissing Jason’s smooth shoulder again. “Be right back,” he whispered against Jason’s skin, but all he received was an answering sleepy sigh.

 Author Bio

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner, my characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be a few bumps along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

My Review:

My heart absolutely shattered for Ryder and how he struggled after a tragic accident. I rooted throughout the book for him to allow the words to come and end his silence. I really admire the strength and determination Alexis showed in this book. She was exactly what Ryder needed.

I've enjoyed the glimpses we've gotten of Braeden in the previous books in this series so I was happy to see that this book would be about him. I enjoyed watching him grow as a person throughout the book. He seems like a tough, arrogant ass on the outside, but he cares deeply about the people in his life. He's a great person to have in your corner. I loved the back and forth banter between Braeden and Ivy. And Ivy! I loved her. She can dish it out as well as she can take it. She's so sassy. I love how strong she is despite everything that she has been through. The suspense in this book keeps your attention and the pages turning because you just have to know what is going to happen next. I never saw that twist about the BuzzBoss' identity coming. That was a definite shocker. I don't think I've ever hated a character as badly as I do the BuzzBoss. Ugh. I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out in the next book.

★★★☆☆

This was my first book by this author. I have some mixed feelings about this story. I really enjoyed the initial meeting between Avery and Daniel. It was funny, sweet, and original. They had a good connection and chemistry together. I'm all for swoony moments in a story but after a while though it almost just got to be too much. The conflict wasn't really much of a conflict at all and came out of nowhere it seems like. The reactions were a little blown out of proportion.

Overall I enjoyed the story and how it ended. I have other books by Moreland on my TBR list and will try them out sometime.

It Started with a Kiss by Melanie Moreland from Bibliophile Productions on Vimeo.
It started with a kiss.
Then it became so much more.
Love at first sight.
Avery Connor doesn’t believe in it.
But what about love at first kiss?
A favor for a friend. Kiss a stranger and walk away.
But what if that favor, and that stranger, prove to be the turning point of her life?
What if that kiss leads to something more?
Dr. Daniel Stewart is certain it will.
He is determined to make her see him. To feel what he feels.
To have the effects of that kiss last forever.
A story about taking a chance, opening your heart to the moment, and falling in love.

New York Times/USA Today bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-seven-plus years and their rescue cat Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.

While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys travelling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.

Melanie delights in a good romance story with some bumps along the way, but is a true believer in happily ever after.  When her head isn’t buried in a book, it is bent over a keyboard, furiously typing away as her characters dictate their creative storylines to her, often with a large glass of wine keeping her company.

My Review:

I'm not even really sure what to say right now. I've been thinking for a while about what to write, but I just don't feel like the words would do this book justice. There was so much love packed into this story. You can feel the love shared between Rune and Poppy lifting from the pages. I don't think I've ever felt so many conflicting emotions so close together while reading a book. I had to put the book down and take a break a couple times from crying so hard, but then I'd pick it right back up and continue because I had to know how the story would end. This book broke my heart so many times, but not long after, it would put it back together. Poppy and Rune had the kind of love that everyone wishes to have in their life at least once. There were sweet, heartwarming moments, memories created, dreams come true, and laughs. There was sadness, frustration, anger, disappointment, shock, and devastation. It all wound together to create the perfect story for the perfect love. This book has really made me realize that I need to stop, take a breath, slow down, and just *live*. Live this live to the fullest extent possible, because it is the only one you will get and your length of time on this Earth isn't guaranteed. Don't waste any moments.
